[172c]A collection of slides can be viewed in an on-line presentation, or slide show. With the Play panel, you can use Concurrence to run a continuous full-screen demonstration.
[147c]You can also assign transition effects between each slide, and attach sounds and voice-overs to individual slides for playback during a slide show.
[415c]There are two ways to play a slide show. If you want to take a quick look at your slide show in action, you can play it by using the miniature slide show controls at the bottom right corner of the Slide view window. Click the Play button to start a slide show, and click the Stop button to end it. Clicking the Pause button will suspend a slide show in progress, and resume it where you left off if you click again.
[116c]For more control over the playback of your slide show, bring up the Play panel by choosing Play from the Tools menu.
[62c]The Play panel gives you control over how slide shows are run.
[508c]The Play panel lets you choose how you want your slides displayed. Select Automatic to cycle through your slides automatically, or Manual to use the keyboard to go from one slide to the next. Keyboard commands (displayed above the buttons of the Play panel) can be used to advance through the slides, show the previous slide, pause, or stop the slide show. If you hold down any other key while a slide show is playing, a window will appear on the screen to tell you which keys correspond to which functions.
[380c]For a full-screen presentation of your slide show, select the Take Over Screen button on the Play panel. Select the Repeat Show button to automatically and continuously repeat your presentation. The Play Sounds and Show Slide Transitions buttons allow you to choose whether or not attached sounds will be played or transitional effects will be shown when you play your slide show.
[20c]Playing a Slide Show
[224c]When you play a full-screen slide show, slides are scaled up to fill the screen. In some situations, this scaling causes unwanted distortion in attached images, especially TIFF images, which are drawn at a fixed resolution.
[236c]To rectify this problem, use the page layout panel to modify the page size of your presentation to exactly represent the size of your monitor. In the case of NeXT monitors this size is 1120 x 832. See Appendix C for other typical sizes.
[410c]You can determine how long each slide remains on the screen before the next slide is shown by changing the Delay Before Showing Next Slide on the Slide inspector. (Bring up the Slide inspector by clicking the Inspector button (indicated below)at the top left of the slide pane. Then choose Attributes from the Inspector panel's pop-up button.) Refer to Chapter 25 for more about how to use the Inspector panel.
[406c]The Slide inspector also allows you to choose the effects (dissolve, wipe, etc.), which are used to transition from one slide to another. Transitions take place between the selected slide and the next slide. You can set the delay and transition for each slide, or if you want to use the same effects for a group of slides, set the transition of their master slide. See Chapter 12 for more on master slides.
Slide Effects
[245c]You can attach a sound to each slide so that presentations delivered on-line are accompanied by narration or other sounds. Attached sounds are played only during playback of a slide show, and will play at the moment the slide is first displayed.
[464c]To attach a sound to a slide, first select a slide's minislide in the slide sorter and then bring up the Slide inspector (see above for how to bring up the inspector). Click the Sound button at the bottom of the inspector. This will bring up a Sound inspector, which allows you to record, erase, and play back a sound attachment. Any sound now recorded will be played with the selected slide during playback. (Note that sounds cannot be attached to master slides.)
[148c]A sound symbol (indicated below) will appear on the slides's minislide in the slide sorter to indicate that there is a sound attached to that slide.
[114c]To remove a sound from a slide, simply bring up the sound inspector as described above and click the Erase button.
